Stunning and impressive Victorian ring crafted in 14K gold,
featuring a deep purple faceted amethyst, rose cut diamonds,
and natural pearls. Ring size 5 1/2. C.1860.
A large prong-set oval amethyst forms the center,
measuring 20 mm x 13 mm (approx. 13 carats).
It is surrounded by a dramatic halo of 10 natural half pearls
(approx. 3 mm each) set in gold buttercup settings,
and 40 rose cut diamonds set in sterling prongs
with fine milgrain detail.
The ring has a substantial, sculptural presence.
The face measures 33 mm x 27 mm and rises approx. 11 mm
above the finger.
The ornate triple band complements the top beautifully,
with intricate hand-carved floral and leaf engraving.
The shank measures approx. 5 mm at the back
and expands to approx. 25 mm across under the top.
No hallmarks; tested 14K gold and sterling silver.
Total weight: 14.5 grams.
Very good antique condition commensurate with age.
A few amethyst prongs are missing; however, the gemstone
remains secure and this is largely inconspicuous when worn
(best seen in photos #1 and #7).
There is a small fleabite chip to the amethyst under a prong,
and two prior solder spots inside the shank consistent with
original construction. These details are noted for accuracy
and do not detract from the ring’s overall beauty.
