Exceptional pair of antique German parcel-gilt sterling silver figures
depicting a Renaissance king and queen inspired by
the celebrated bronze statues of the Hofkirche in Innsbruck, Austria.

The king represents Philip I of Castile (Philip the Handsome)
and the queen represents Bianca Maria Sforza,
both modeled after figures from Emperor Maximilian I's
monumental cenotaph.

Finely cast and chased, the figures stand atop
octagonal openwork plinths decorated
with colorful glass paste cabochons.

The king is portrayed in elaborate armor
holding a sword and heraldic shield.
The queen wears richly detailed court dress
adorned with colored paste accents.

The figures feature delicately carved faces and hands.

Marked 925, STERLING, GERMANY,
