A rare and highly collectible Austro-Hungarian silver spinner brooch
by renowned Viennese silversmith Georg Adam Scheid (G.A.S.),
crafted circa 1890.

The brooch is centered with a finely detailed rotating silver medallion
inspired by ancient Greek Syracuse coinage,
specifically the celebrated silver decadrachm type of Arethusa,
showing the classical profile of the nymph Arethusa
surrounded by dolphins on one side,
and a quadriga chariot scene on the reverse.

The medallion is mounted within an elaborate toothed silver frame
accented with sculptural ram’s head
and delicate Etruscan Revival style gold appliqué details,
reflecting the archaeological revival taste
popular in late 19th century Vienna.

The tubular hinge is stamped “G.A.S.”
for Georg Adam Scheid of Vienna,
one of the most respected Austro-Hungarian jewellers of the period,
known for refined silverwork and enamel creations.

The C-catch bears the Austrian dog-head hallmark
for 800 silver together with the letter “A”
for the Vienna assay office.
