Impressive 14K gold diamonds acanthus brooch pin C.1860.
The pin is masterfully crafted with sophisticated design
involving acanthus leaves and scrolls.
Acanthus leaves motif has been used since Greco-Roman times
in architecture, art, and jewelry making.
They symbolize immortality, rebirth, and long life.
The gold smith techniques such as chasing, carving, repousse
had been used in making the brooch
A cluster of diamonds depicts flower buds or dew droplets.
The larger diamond on the tip is old mine cut approx. 3 mm diameter,
approx. 0.12 CW.
The rest are 16 smaller rose cuts diamonds.
The whole brooch is 49 mm long 33 mm wide.
The closure is secure CC clasp which is 1900 replacement for C clasp
after invention of the former.
It looks like the watch hook was added the same time.
The needle is mounted on the original tubular hinge.
There are no hallmarks, tested 14K gold.
The needle is not gold.
Total weight is 10.2 grams.
Excellent antique condition commensurate with age.
