This pendant is a great example of end of
19th century jewelry design.
The elaborate design incorporates 21 rose cut diamonds.
The largest diamond, approx. 5 mm across, is set in
a crimped bezel mount in the center.
Rose cut diamonds radiate the soft glitter they were
admired for under the candlelight of Victorian ballrooms.
Typically for the period the back of the pendant
is gold while the front is silver-topped for a better
color match with the diamonds and their natural patina.
The diamonds are individually set in hand-formed collets,
a technique typical of well-made jewelry of the time.
The pendant is completed with elegant pearl dangles,
very popular in jewelry of the period.
The central pearl measures 8 mm in diameter,
while the side pearls measure just under 4 mm.
The pearls are typical of the period and have not
been laboratory tested.
The pendant measures 1 7/8” high including the bail,
which holds a diamond of its own.
The width of the brooch is 1 1/2”.
Total weight 7.4 grams.
The brooch is unmarked.
Gold is tested 14K.
The pendant is equipped with a trombone clasp
for use as a brooch.
Excellent antique condition.
Gold chain and antique jewelry box shown
for display only.
