Antique Georgian 9K Gold Necklace Round Box Guard Slide Chain C.1820

Rare and sought after Georgian 9K gold slide guard chain necklace C.1820.

These chains were used as guard chains for lorgnettes, watches,
or simply for hanging valuable pendants.

The chain is a very special hand crafted round box type.
It is extra long, 55 1/2 inches and can be wrapped twice around a neck.

Ornate slide embellished with hand carved floral ornament on both sides.
The slide 14.5 mm long 8 mm wide. It slides freely along the chain.

The chain terminated to hand carved end with ornament on both sides.
It is 12 mm long 7 mm wide.

A very special old style dog clip clasp has a swivel ring on the top.
The latch turns open on the hinge and locks close with the knurled threaded nut.
The clasp is large, 25 mm long 9 mm wide.

There is no hallmarks.
Tested 9K gold.
Total weight is 22.3 grams.

Very good antique condition.
