Rare and sought after Georgian 10K gold longuard chain necklace with hand fist end C.1820. These chains were used in the period as guard chains for lorgnettes, watches, or simply for hanging valuable pendants. The double-link chain is 34 1/2 inches long The links are 1.7 mm wide.
The chain terminated to the hand fist end with old style dog clip clasp. The front and the back of the hand fist crafted very realistically. The hand is holding an upside-down stirrup shaped swivel adorned with baroque patterns. The clasp has its own swivel. The latch of the clasp turns open on the hinge. It locks close with the knurled threaded nut. The end with the clasp is 35 X 12 mm.
There are no hallmarks. The chain tested 10K gold. The fist end is made of gold cased base metal. Total weight of the necklace is 12.7 grams.
Very good antique condition. There are a few double links missing one of the two loops. The hand has a few spots with minor wear.
