High quality Bohemian garnet necklace C. 1890.
Since ancient Greece and Rome garnet jewelry was praised 
as spiritual protector and considered having healing properties.
Garnet is both the modern and traditional January birthstone.

The necklace is standing out with flashing deep red rose cut garnets
and elaborate craftsmanship.
The 4-tier 8-point star shaped center dangle is also a locket
which can be disconnected from the necklace
and worn as a brooch with the C clasp on the back.
It measures 39 mm (1 1/2") high 33 mm (1 1/4") wide.
It mostly consists of 6-point snowflake shape links
from 17 mm to 11 mm, 10 mm wide intermediate links,
and the central 3-tier link 24 mm diameter
with a 12 X 12 mm transitional drop (which also can be disconnected)
between the necklace and the dangle.
The whole center of the necklace with all pieces intact 
is 67 mm (2 11/16") high.
The necklace is 16 3/4 inches long and can be worn 
without the brooch and the transition link.

The necklace equipped with a jeweled push-in clasp.

There are no hallmarks.  
The garnet gemstones are set in in gold filled.
Total weight is 36 grams.

Excellent antique condition.
All parts are intact including the locket glass.
