Rare Japanese 14K gold mixed metal Shakudo locket pendant C.1880.
Samurai sword smiths started making this type of jewelry
after samurai society was disbanded and outlawed
with Meiji reform in the late 19th century.
both lids show meticulously detailed carving and chase
Shakudo works.
One lid shows a pheasant a tree on the background.
The other lid shows a smaller bird with grapes vine
on the background.
Both lids' art is in old Japanese style.
The Shakudo plaques are mounted in 14K gold bezels.
Inside compartments are lined with sterling silver.
The locket is 43 mm X 28 mm including the bail.
Gold tested 14K.
Total weight is 28 grams.
