A rare beautiful Japanese Shibayama trinket box C.1900.
Shibayama work is a combination of inlay and relief.
It was first used in Japan in the 18th century for decoration ornaments and objects.
The trinket box (or compact) lid decorated with meticulously carved
and inlayed insects made of mother of pearl, abalone, and semiprecious stones,
The insects inlay survived more than 100 of years with their original state.
The box is approx. 2 1/2" diameter.
There are no hallmarks, tested sterling silver.
Total weight is 49 grams.
Excellent antique condition commensurate with age.
Silver surface has minor ware with appropriate hair scratches
