Rare and sought after Georgian 14K gold
slide guard (longuard) chain necklace C.1820.

These longuard chains were designed to hold lorgnettes, watches,
or simply for suspending valuable pendants.

The chain is exceptionally long, measuring 53 inches around the neck.
It can be wrapped twice around the neck and measures 1.5 mm wide.

Finely engraved decorative slide measures 16.5 x 8.5 mm.
It slides freely along the chain.

The matching decorative end is also finely engraved
and measures 10.5 x 7 mm.

Old dog clip clasp with swivel
is suspended from the end of the chain.

The latch opens on a pivot
and locks closed with a knurled threaded nut.

The clasp measures 17 x 6 mm.

There are no hallmarks.
The chain, slide, end, and clasp have all been tested 14K gold.

Total weight is 25.1 grams.

Excellent antique condition.
There are a few slightly bent links in two areas of the chain.
