This hard-to-find 14K gold brooch is of favorite bee or insect motif
from Victorian period between 1860 - 1890.
It is fine crafted and adorned with rose cut diamonds,
emerald, rubies, pearls, and cobalt blue enamel.
Bee symbolizes unconditional love and support.
It is also thought to bring good luck, wealth and abundance to the wearer.

The brooch measures 1" X 7/8" or 25 mm X 22.5 mm.
The head of the bee has bezel set ruby eyes,
and front accented with diamond set in sterling.
The antennae are also adorned with diamonds.

The bee's thorax is accented with prong set emerald,
just over 3 mm diameter.

4 wings adorned with rows of bead and bright set
rose cut diamonds with milgrain borders.
They are made with great precision of sterling silver topped gold,
which was a common practice of the period to match white diamonds.

The abdomen of the bee shines with stripes
of bead and bright set pearls and cobalt blue enamel.

The legs also did not escape attention to details of the gold smith.
They are hand carved and mimic hairy legs live bee.

The brooch is equipped with early secure C clasp.

The needle is hallmarked 14K.
Total weight is 4.8 grams.

Very good antique condition commensurate with age.
Gold and silver covered with beautiful antique patina.
There is one superficial chip on enamel.
