Antique Georgian 14K Gold Necklace Slide Guard Chain C.1820

Rare and sought after Georgian 14K gold
slide guard (longuard) chain necklace C.1820.

These longuard chains used to hold lorgnettes, watches,
or simply for hanging valuable pendants.

The chain alone is extra-long 48 1/2 inches.
It can be wrapped twice around a neck.
It is just under 2 mm wide.

The teardrop shape end terminates the chain.
It is embellished with hand-engraved flowers on both sides.
The end is 12 mm long 5.5 mm wide.
The old-style dog clip clasp with swivel 
suspended from the end of the chain.
The latch opens on the pivot
which locks close with the knurled threaded nut.
The clasp is 18.5 X 5.5 mm.

Nicely shaped hand chased and carved on both sides slider 
measures 14 X 8.8 X 6 mm.
It slides freely along the chain.

There are no hallmarks.
Tested 14K gold.
Total weight is 17.3 grams.

Excellent antique condition.
